ADR mediation is one of the out-of-court dispute resolution procedures, where disputes are resolved through discussions mediated by professionals. The benefits typically associated with ADR include avoiding the formalities of a court trial, allowing for amicable discussions, and having expert mediation. Our center, as a Ministry of Justice-certified ADR institution, conducts mediation for family issues.
notice:We request that all communications and document submissions to our center be conducted in Japanese. Additionally, mediation sessions will also proceed in Japanese. Therefore, if you are not confident in your Japanese language skills, we strongly recommend arranging for an interpreter.
Benefits of ADR |
Evening and Weekend Availability |
In family court mediation, sessions are limited to weekday daytime hours. However, at our center, discussions can take place until 8:00 PM on weekdays and weekends. This is recommended for those who cannot frequently take time off from work.
Possibility of Early Resolution |
Family court mediation usually involves discussions only once a month, taking six months to a year to reach an agreement. In contrast, ADR allows for flexible discussion frequency, making it possible to reach an agreement in about three months.
Nationwide Availability |
Over 90% of our ADR mediations are conducted online via Zoom. This allows participants to engage in discussions without the need to travel, making it ideal for those living far away or those who prefer not to face the other party directly.
Divorce Experts Handle the Mediation |
The mediators in our ADR process are specialists in divorce, including lawyers, former family court investigators, and family court mediators. They are experienced professionals who have dealt with many difficult and complex cases in family courts. They are well-versed in maintaining fairness and neutrality, efficiently organizing issues, and promoting self-determination among the parties. The qualifications of the mediators are also supervised by the Ministry of Justice, ensuring their expertise is well recognized.
Certified by the Ministry of Justice |
The mediation (arbitration) conducted by the Family ADR Center Divorce Terrace is certified by the Ministry of Justice as an ADR institution under the “Kaiketsu Support” program. To obtain certification from the Ministry of Justice, strict examinations regarding fairness, neutrality, and expertise are required. As such, you can entrust your case to us with confidence.

Please follow these three steps to apply for ADR mediation (arbitration). If you are concerned that the other party may not cooperate, or if you are uncertain about filing, we recommend first receiving divorce counseling or pre-mediation support. Counseling covers a wide range of marital issues beyond ADR, while pre-mediation support can transition your consultation to ADR. You can choose your counselor for counseling, but not for pre-mediation support. We encourage you to use these services according to your needs.
